I don’t even know where to start.. 2017 was UNREAL!
Talk about going to new heights… High Five Racing, and its members really surprised us this past year!
Our kickoff event this year was the Tour De Franklin! Joe Ellis, Nick Ellis, Carmen Rivera, George Pejovic, CJ, and myself all participated and had a great time in Franklin Lakes. For many it was the first time of the year, and they took off for 25, 40, and even 62 miles!
Triathlon started with CJ, Matt, and I off a ferry, at Delmo’s Escape the Cape Tri in Cape May.. which get this.. included Christian winning his age group!!!
From there, High Five Racing stormed into NJ State with style!
Christopher Clarke won the sprint in his age group, while Christian Kroyer finished; and the very next day Christian took 3rd in the Olympic… Our relay team also kicked some butt and placed Top 10 in the relay course! More than just placing well; High Five had an amazing presence.. 26 different athletes, which included our first tent and our own private port-a-John!
It was actually a double event for High Five as I completed Ironman #2 at Lake Placid, with a solid improvement from last year’s time to boot. Just a great weekend!
High Five carried the momentum right over to Delmo Sports Atlantic City 70.3 Ironman with 5 more finishers, as we saw first timers Don Linden and David Parke finish with flying colors, along with veterans Warren Tranquada, Christian, and myself all do great…
Would you believe the recap still isn’t over! That’s right, Salah Shahin and I went to Chicago and both got big PRs in the Chicago Marathon?
And since High Five is all over the map; the very next day, Christian went through 140.6 miles in 12:12:12, and became an Ironman at last, during Ironman Maryland!
The season came to a thrilling end in November, with the New York City Marathon and Barbados Swim Festival. Down the Caribbean, Mike, Beth, and Bill completed the Barbados Open Water Swim Festival, including the 5k and 1.5k swim races, where Beth even won her age group!!
Every athlete has their own story, and the truth is it doesn’t matter if you are going for an Ironman, trying to win your age group, your first 10K (which Carmen Rivera did btw!) or even handling something more greater than any race… Even with all the great achievements the team did this year, our most inspirational athlete was by far Rich Truche.
Rich has been battling through cancer treatment throughout 2017, and is nearing the finish line of his current treatment. Through it all, Rich has been nothing, but supportive to the team. He followed us through races, cheered us on, and offered us his sage advice every step of the way. Through it all, he was upbeat and was a constant inspiration to the team without ever realizing it. Every time Rich would share his latest workout with the group, (which was regularly!), Besides being proud and pumped, I was just incredibly moved by him. He didn’t know it, but he was a constant inspiration to us all through-out the season. Rich battled every single day in 2017, and we are all honored and lucky to have him as a teammate, and more importantly, as a friend.
Keep on going Rich, you’re doing great, and you’ll beat this thing!
That was 2017…
And you may think it’s going to be tough to beat that… And you would be right, we won’t beat 2017, we will absolutely crush it and take the club even further!
We are lined up with; get this, 2 Ironman races, including Lake Placid where we will have 3 members go for the finish! CJ has Ironman Louisville on deck for 2018!
I’m not only talking about more races and more members…This year we are pulling out all the stops in giving our members even more value. We have secured several sponsors already, all of which are companies that we personally believe in and have vetted. Each sponsor is giving us a special deal. The discounts will be super useful to all of us. Again, High Five has no registration costs, or anything like that.. We only ask that you buy a kit (which is sold directly at cost). We want to help our members out, and this is just something else that we can offer.
Speaking of kits, we are switching over to Wattie Ink this year to get us some awesome new short sleeved kits. Say good bye to sun-burns and farmer tans, because the new kits are going to be amazing. Check out our Instagram for a sneak peak!
Thank you to all our teammates for joining us, and getting the club this far. We’re growing, and growing fast.. and get set. It’s going to be a big year! Check out the races section to find out what we have on deck for races, and feel free to join. As always, Christian and I are just a message or call away if you need anything at all!
With that said, let’s get ready to rock 2018!
